About ThIS WEBSITE.
My name is Keith Knight. When I am writing fiction I am K.D.Knight. If you haven't read any of my work you are in the majority. I am obscure even in my own home.
Cut me open and across my heart it will say National Hunt. In my blood will be found the names of the great horses who have graced my vision with their exploits. To the detriment of my character, on my deathbed the memories that will sustain me as I pass from here to wherever there happens to be will be Red Rum winning his third National, Crisp so gallantly nearly denying Red Rum his first, Desert Orchid winning the Gold Cup, Sprinter Sacre winning his second 2-mile Champion Chase, Kauto Star winning the last of his Betfair Chases, Denman winning his first Hennessey and filling me with hope that I was witness to Arkle's successor. No human, I expect, will emerge from the memory bank as I draw my last breath.
I have no qualifications to express my thoughts, my ideas, on this great sport other than my deep and abiding love of horses, of racing and the fine people who populate it.
I am the author of 'GOING TO THE LAST', a horse racing related collection of short stories that can be purchased at all respectable e-book sellers, and will soon be available as a print on demand paperback. It is priced at £1.99 and is worth every penny.
One of the subjects closest to my heart, as can be seen from an article on my Blog page, is that of horses names. Racing is a dignified sport and I believe horses should be given dignified names. Silly names appal me. Names that are hiding places for crudeness, as with Wear The Fox Hat, annoy me. When it comes to the naming of racehorses I have no sense of humour.
On this page, or in time on a dedicated page, I will at random suggest names that owners struggling to name a horse can use if they so wish. A name cannot be subject to copyright or ownership and if my storehouse of names should become popular I will ask users of my service to donate £25 to a charity connected with the re-training of racehorses.
I do not make any guarantees that the names I come up with will be acceptable to the authorities, though I can assure you that I will not resort to the names of great and good horses of the past.
